Série Black churches 2007 photographies couleur, 120 x 160 cm. © Rémy Marlot |
A huge and willowy gothic mass, with bluish shades which gives a dizzy sensation : Black churches, the new photographic work of Rémy Marlot makes in the first place a visual shock.
The fantastic architecture and the unreal aspect of colors suggest a science fiction world. However, this is Marlot's interpretation (without major technical intervention, against all expectations), on the most photographed monument in Germany, the cathedral of Cologne.
His documentary fragments open however the way for imagination with an extraordinary strength.
Born in 1972, Rémy Marlot uses photography and video in a complementary way, building an oniric work that puts together diverse reflections like urban landscape, night, gardens.
